Please note you will be expected to work across the borough.

Salary: Grade 10, £36,876 - £40,760 per annum.

Your role:

We have a vision for Wigan Borough to be a confident place with confident people. This means helping all our children and young people become resilient and self reliant adults. To achieve this vision we know that we need to work with our young people, to transform our services, create opportunities for them and help them to flourish as confident adults in a place they can belong.

This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of transforming services for children in care and on the edge of care. You will lead the team to ensure the delivery of outstanding residential and outreach services to children young people in care and on the edge of care.
You will be responsible for a multi-disciplinary team, which will provide a range of creative support and placement offers that improve permanence for young people on the edge of care and in care. The service will promote family based care and support our ambition for all Children Looked After (CLA) to be cared for within the Wigan community.

About you:

You will be a committed, passionate individual with a proven track record of improving outcomes for the most vulnerable and complex children and families. You will have a solution-focused positive attitude and hold an appropriate professional based qualification to be registered with Ofsted.

You will be part of a high functioning team and will passionately lead our ambitious service offer to improve outcomes for children in care and on the edge of care.

You will be flexible in your approach and required to work evenings, weekends and nights on a rota basis.

You must have a minimum of two years’ experience working with children in a residential setting (within the last 5 years) and at least one year working at a supervisory level. You will have experience in supervising, guiding and supporting staff, managing budgets and completing detailed and analytical reports.

You will have a thorough knowledge of The Children’s Home’s Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards, as well as The Children’s Act 1989 and all other relevant legislation and guidance, to operate the home to a Good/Outstanding Ofsted grading

About us:

Wigan Council has been voted ‘Council of the Year’ at the 2019 LGC Awards and has recently published The Deal 2030, our ambitious plan for our borough. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.

Children Services in Wigan are good, with an ambition to be outstanding. The Deal and the Deal for Children and Young People outlines our ambition to transform our service to be asset based, with the child and family at the centre and drive our vision to support all children in Wigan become confident resilient adults.

As an employer we like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of exclusive rewards and benefits.
