Your role: 
 
You will provide advisory, training and teaching support for learning approaches that will enable schools to meet the needs of children and young people who are at risk of not making expected educational progress. You will also encourage schools to develop strategies and policies aimed at meeting the needs of children and young people and to promote good classroom management. 
 
This role will also require you to develop appropriate provision through consultation with Headteachers and other colleagues as a member of an education support service which offers support to schools in removing barriers to achievement. Your core duties will involve you contributing to the development and the achievement of the objectives within the TESS, Services for Schools and Education delivery plans
 
About you: 
 
You must possess significant teaching experience and Qualified Teacher Status, whilst also exhibiting substantial experience of working with children and/or young people in either mainstream or special education, who display learning and/or social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
 
You will also possess a degree or equivalent qualification and an additional SEN / Behaviour Qualification. Your ability to design and deliver training programmes and to help identify and assess the needs of pupils/schools and formulate mutually appropriate plans of action, is essential to the role.
 
You will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work accurately under pressure. You will also have excellent knowledge and understanding of current issues in education.

The Targeted Education Support Service staff are qualified and experienced Teachers and Educational Practitioners who work with schools within the Borough, to support children and young people aged 4-19 whose learning progress, social, emotional or mental health may be causing concern. TESS is actively involved in supporting inclusive practice in schools.
 
TESS provides specialist advice through consultation, observation, modelling good practice and assessment. The service also offers training for literacy, mathematics, social skills and emotional development. TESS teachers also offer support and training in SEND strategies and the SEND Code of Practice.
