Grade 9: £32,910 - £37,890 per annum

Hours: 37 per week

Your role:

Our Children’s Locality Social Work teams are looking to recruit experienced Social Workers to the service. We have vacancies across all areas of the Wigan borough.

Through the delivery of high-quality practice, you will ensure the right support and interventions are in place for children and their families and that children are protected from significant harm.

You will work in a busy and friendly team predominantly with children in need, child protection pre-proceedings and undertaking both care proceeding and private law applications. On a longer-term basis, you will work with children, young people and their families providing help and support to make effective change.

You will be expected to manage a complex case load delivering a high quality and effective social work service to facilitate, empower and promote independence, strengths and assets of both individuals and local communities.

About you:

You will be a qualified Social Worker with up to date Social Work England registration and have significant experience of operating in a social work capacity. You will have experience of undertaking court work and supporting children and families to make effective change. You will have thorough knowledge and experience of legislation, statutory guidance and regulations relating to children in need of support or protection.

As well as having highly developed interpersonal and caring skills, you will have a strong, resilient nature with the capacity to recover quickly from difficult situations.

You will be a strong team player who is used to working in a person-centred way, allowing you to be efficient in time management, report writing, completing assessments and providing both written and verbal evidence in care proceedings. You will have a holistic approach to work, with a keen focus on reducing inequalities and supporting individuals to develop their resilience and improve outcomes.

About us:

Here at Wigan Council, we believe that children, young people and families deserve outstanding social care. We are rolling out the Signs of Safety framework across all service areas, expanding our successful mocking bird programme, building a no wrong door service which keeps our looked after children close to home and further growing our exploitation team to ensure our older children are kept safe from harm.

Wigan Council has been voted ‘Council of the Year’ at the 2019 LGC Awards and has recently published The Deal 2030, our ambitious plan for our borough. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.

As an employer we like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of exclusive rewards and benefits.
