Your role:


The role is for developing and implementing commissioning intentions for Children Looked After and children edging away from care to help support our ambitions of reducing the number of children looked after and when children come into care that they are care for in Wigan by a family.

The Post holder will take the lead role in all commissioning activities for children who are looked after by the Local Authority to ensure that we provide them with the best care possible at a cost that is sustainable The post holder will play a central role with the development of the provider market, working collaboratively with colleagues across Greater Manchester.

The post holder will lead in the development and implementation of a quality assurance mechanism for commissioning placements for Children Looked After, giving key consideration to how the Council could utilise this to shape and inform commissioning decisions

The Post holder will include the placement finding function for our children and will work closely with a range of teams as well as external partners, in order to achieve sufficiency of placements for our cared for children and care leavers.

About you:

As Team Manager of the Commissioning and Placement Team, you will be a committed, innovative, confident and energetic leader committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for looked after children and care leavers. You will lead on the delivery, development of high-quality practice and robust performance management systems to ensure that your team is highly effective

You will be qualified to degree level or have an equivalent qualification and significant experience relevant to the role

You will Have a detailed working knowledge and understanding of the current legislation and frameworks relevant the Children’s Social Care, Fostering and Residential Care and will be able to demonstrate a commitment and passion about improving outcome for the most vulnerable and complex children and families.

You will have knowledge and experience of commissioning services and an understanding of national best practice and leading innovation programmes

You will be able to demonstrate substantial and relevant experience commissioning services and have experience and ability to lead and motivate a team and operate in a dynamic flexible environment
