Salary: Grade 10, £36,876 - £40,760 per annum.

37 hours per week

Temporary until April 2023

Your role:

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and influence the future of revenue collection in Wigan. You will work with the Business Manager and wider Collections team to ensure the maximisation of Council Tax and National Non-Domestic Rates collection as well as Housing Rents.
By identifying opportunities to bring together sympathetic areas of collection and through smarter use of data, you’ll ensure billing and recovery processes are streamlined, effective and holistic now and going forward, whilst accounting for the impact of Welfare Reform, the Localism Act and Business Rates Retention.
You will ensure the principles of Early Intervention and Prevention are instilled across the service and policies like Fair Collection and Vulnerability are embedded into working practices.
You will be responsible for developing systems and approaches that increase awareness and up take of Discounts, Exemptions and Reliefs, using traditional and digital communications, simultaneously embedding robust reviewing regimes to protect Council income.

About you:

You will be an experienced Revenues manager with a good understanding of the priorities, financial challenges and landscape faced by Local Authorities today.

A confident and accomplished communicator at all levels, you will be an adept and inspirational people manager possessing the skills to enable you to motivate and maximise large multi-functional teams.

Solution focussed and a keen innovator, you will have demonstrable ability in developing teams, ideas and approaches leading to beneficial collection and customer focussed outcomes.

Passionate about customer service, you will have a proven track record in shaping outstanding, highly functioning teams that have made a positive difference to customers and the way customers access the range of services available to them.

About us:

Wigan Council has been voted ‘Council of the Year’ at the 2019 LGC Awards and has recently published The Deal 2030, our ambitious plan for our borough. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.

In Customer Services we focus on our customers and understand their needs. We make change happen through innovative thinking, redesigning services and recognising areas for improvement. As the first point of contact we are the ‘face’ of the council and pride ourselves on a right first-time approach for our customers.

Wigan is a great place to work; we put customers at the heart of everything we do.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking organisation and be part of a fresh look at how we collect Council Tax and Council income. An organisation who will offer you the support you need to succeed and every opportunity to learn and develop further within the organisation.

As an employer we like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of exclusive rewards and benefits.
