You will be based at one of the 3 locality bases:
Wigan Life Centre South, Lilford Centre, Hindley Town Hall

Salary: Grade 6, £23,080 - £25,991 per annum.

37 hours per week

Your role:

As part of our Start Well Service, Early Intervention and Prevention, we are looking for a brilliant Start Well Worker who will join one of our locality integrated teams, working closely with our communities and key partners to ensure that children in the borough stay safe, healthy and are able to learn and achieve without the need for statutory intervention.

About you:

You will have experience of working with children, young people and their families in the community at level 2, 3 or 4 of the safeguarding thresholds. You will work with children, young people and their families helping them to make use of their existing skills, knowledge and relationships in order to achieve their goals, by building resilience and connecting them to their communities.

You will engage in new conversations in order to build positive relationships. You will hold cases using the Early Help framework, completing assessments, developing ‘SMART’ action plans and reviewing and measuring progress to ensure children are safeguarded. You will coach, challenge and support children, young people and their families to enable them to achieve.

About us:

Wigan Council has been voted ‘Council of the Year’ at the 2019 LGC Awards and has recently published The Deal 2030, our ambitious plan for our borough.  We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.

The Deal for Children and Young People’s Programme sets out Wigan Council’s plans to redesign services in Wigan Borough. This plan will result in better outcomes, improved quality of life for children, young people and their families and ensure that we build resilience in our communities. Our ‘Start Well’ new delivery model proposes the development of community hubs which have integrated, whole life course services which are closer to residents in the borough and work with our Schools, Early Years Settings and GP’s to ensure we collaboratively and efficiently drive improvements in outcomes for children and their families.

As an employer we like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of exclusive rewards and benefits.

Covid safe:

Wigan Council are proud to be a Covid safe organisation. For some of this role you will be required to work from home and connect with your team and others virtually. However, there may be occasions where you are required to go into a council building to carry out part of your role. The health and wellbeing of our staff is of utmost importance to us and if you are required to use a council building, a risk assessment will be conducted beforehand and the appropriate safety measures put in place.
