Local Authority Asylum Support Liason Officer
Safeguarding

Wigan Police Station
Robin Park Road
Wigan
WN5 0UP

You will be based at various locations throughout the Wigan Borough

Safeguarding, Partnership and Reform

Salary: Grade 7, £25,295 - £28,785 per annum

37 hours per week

Temporary for 2 years

Your role:

You will offer support to asylum seekers and refugees to facilitate the transition from government supported accommodation to mainstream society following a determination to remain within the UK. This will involve developing relationships with clients to develop a holistic service through advice, information and guidance.

Your job will involve partnership working with agencies and partners to promote an integrated and joined up approach to working with asylum seekers and refugees. You will also work with asylum seekers to prepare them for the consequences of a negative decision, supporting them to return to their country of origin.

About you:

We are seeking a motivated, energetic and enthusiastic team member who can work independently in an often pressurised and challenging environment with a vulnerable client base. An understanding of the difficulties faced by Asylum seekers and refugees together with a willingness to help and support the outcome of a determination is essential.

You will have excellent communication skills and will be able to work closely with a wide range of partners, and directly with communities and will embrace place based working principles. You will understand safeguarding principles and the need to protect and support vulnerable residents.

About us:

We are a busy and committed team who really care about the service we provide and are passionate about making Wigan a great place to live, work and visit for everyone. We value the importance of working in a supportive team environment whilst also recognising the huge benefits of partnership working in a place-based setting.

Our staff deal is an informal agreement with all staff. It outlines what you can expect from us, and in return what we can expect from you.
