Social Worker
Children's Services

Progress House
Westwood Park Drive
Wigan
WN3 4HH

Salary: Grade 9, £32,029 - £36,876 per annum.

37 hours per week

We have recently been awarded Council of the Year and are currently seeking a number of brilliant and enthusiastic Social Workers to join our Duty and Assessment Team.

Your role:

This is a really exciting time in Wigan, as we start to implement the Signs of Safety approach as our practice model.

You will work with children and families in need of support, help and protection. You will help to ensure that all our statutory duties are fully met, involving children and families in decisions that are made about them and ensuring that families understand what is working well and what needs to happen to make positive change.

You will develop clear and detailed assessments with families in line with the Signs of Safety Model and create plans for children which explain exactly what needs to happen by when. You will use your skills to make sure that children’s lived experiences shine through your assessments and plans, recording your work on our liquid logic system and keeping this up to date.

You will fully participate in reflective supervision, case management and learning circles. You will also support other members of your team and prepare written reports to a high standard.

About you:

You will be an excellent communicator and a strong team player with the ability to work in a person-centred way, allowing you to be efficient in time management, report writing, completing assessments and providing both written and verbal evidence in care proceedings.

You will have a key focus on supporting individuals to develop their resilience and improve outcomes. You will be HCPC registered and have a sound knowledge of the legislative and statutory framework which underpins our work.

About us:

We are a dynamic council with a clear focus on social work practice. We are innovative and forward thinking in our approach to services for children and are continually reviewing and learning from the services we provide, making sure that best practice is at the forefront of our work.

Recent developments include our ATOM service, edging away from care services and our new reunification team which includes budget holding social workers. This reflects our ambition and drive.

We want to continue to develop through strengthening our workforce and investing in them to deliver great services for children; you are our greatest asset and we will provide you with the opportunity to develop and grow with opportunities to work in other teams within the service.
