Salary: Apprenticeship wage, £8.21 per hour

37 hours per week

Temporary for up to 2 years

Your role: 

Apprenticeship opportunities are open to all Wigan Borough residents only. In line with the National Apprenticeship Scheme, there are no age restrictions on apprenticeship positions.  

As a Health and Safety Apprentice you will be expected to provide support to the OD and Strategy health and safety team. This will involve dealing with internal and external customers both face to face and on the telephone, operating health and safety management (ICT) systems and providing general support to the team and customers.  

You will assist in delivering an enabling workforce health and safety service to the council and Wigan schools. This will involve support with development of policies, procedures and working practices that effectively control hazards whilst ensuring compliance with the law and best practice.  

About you: 

You will have the ability to work accurately and follow instructions whilst using your own initiative. You will also have the ability to plan work, manage your own time and meet deadlines. You will be enthusiastic and have a commitment to providing excellent services to teams and customers.  

You will also be committed to developing a wide range of skills required to work within a busy and diverse environment. You will have the ability to complete the relevant Level 3 Safety, Health and Environment Technician Apprenticeship. You will also have the ability to travel independently between various work locations as required, using your own or public transport in them most efficient manner.
