Your role:
Wigan Council is looking for an experienced archivist to lead the recently refurbished archives for the Wigan Borough at Archives: Wigan & Leigh (AWL). Based at Leigh Town Hall, the role includes the practical management of the new facilities, including new strongrooms, research area and exhibition space. You will lead a team responsible for the day-to-day operation of the service and development of collections, volunteering and engagement work. The postholder will have oversight of AWL’s digital delivery and development, participate in regional sector partnerships and oversee the delivery of the final stage of the National Lottery Heritage Fund supported ‘Revealing Wigan Archives’ project and the re-accreditation of the service.
About you:
You will be an experienced professional holding a formal archive qualification, with experience of managing archive service delivery and development and able to act as an advocate for Archives: Wigan & Leigh in engaging internal and external audiences and stakeholders.
The postholder should have excellent communication and organisation skills, knowledge of collections care and management, and be familiar with managing service delivery both physically and through digital platforms.
You will have experience of project management and sector standards, with excellent written skills. You should be able to work independently and find solutions to operational service issues, as well as collaboratively alongside a range of colleagues across the Culture service.
