Salary: Grade 8, £29,577 - £33,782 per annum.

37 hours per week

Your role:


As media officer you will be responsible for communicating with more than 300,000 residents through both traditional and digital channels, ensuring content is relevant, timely and targeted. You will support the efficient and effective provision of a first class media relations service. You will provide expert advice to senior council staff and elected members on all aspects of communication, particularly with high risk media issues.
The role will support the development and delivery of key projects in the council’s communications strategy, leading on significant portfolios through working closely with service areas to develop communication plans that support the council’s overall business plan.

About you:

You will be educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or have an equivalent level of work experience, have an excellent understanding and knowledge of the media and be politically astute. You will have excellent writing skills and a strong command of the English language and grammar. You will be highly organised and willing to work flexibly, have effective project management skills and the ability to lead and deliver key programmes of work. You will be comfortable creating and publishing content digitally and have the ability to produce, edit and publish video and audio files. You will possess strong listening and interpersonal skills. You will possess knowledge and understanding on the role of local government or equivalent organisations.
