Your role:


The Climate Engagement Officer focussing on businesses & the economy will work directly with the business community to support a sustainable and just transition to net zero carbon across the borough as quickly as possible.

The post holder will work closely with the Economic Development service to engage with new and existing businesses to support the delivery of green business growth and job creation within the borough, that is in line with our climate commitments and environmental ambitions.

About you:

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in engaging with businesses, ensuring successful outcome, with experience of providing sustainability advice desirable.

Knowledge and understanding of sustainability and local, regional and national climate policy will be required and the candidate should have excellent written and verbal communication skills to influence, support and advise local businesses and corporate partners.

You will be joining the Climate Response Team, which is a newly developed team established to prioritise local authority action on the climate crisis within Wigan Borough. You will work alongside the Climate Change Manager, with a small team of education and engagement officers, who will be working on the ground to promote sustainable transitions to Net Zero Carbon.
