Due to the resignation of the School Caretaker, Hindley Nursery School has this exciting opportunity for a new member of staff to join our outstanding team. The Caretaker role is a full year full time position, working 37 hours per week over a split shift. Due to the partnership the school has with the Local Authority Early Learning and Childcare Team, the building is open some late evenings and weekends, which the Caretaker will be responsible for covering.
Hindley Nursery School is an outstanding local authority maintained nursery school for two, three and four year old children. We are very fortunate to have a vast outside provision for our children to play and learn in.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Maintaining the security of the school and premises
Organising and assisting in the cleaning of the premises
Routine maintenance and repairs not requiring a contractor
Regular inspection and record keeping
Organising and movement of furniture and deliveries throughout the building
Designated key holder providing access and attend emergency call outs
You will ensure that the school is properly cleaned, maintained and secured to an acceptable standard. The school and surrounding grounds are an important image of the school and the post holder must ensure that they are safe, clean and a pleasant place to be for children, parents, staff and visitors.
In addition to the above responsibilities you will also be given the opportunity to access apprenticeship training, starting with the Level 2 Property Maintenance Operative. As a Property Maintenance Operative, you will use your knowledge and understanding of basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing and decorating to:
Understand and demonstrate the importance of Health and Safety in the workplace
Comply with organisational safety, policies and procedures and identify hazards in the workplace
Carry out repairs to the fabric of the building, e.g., repairs to walls, doors, doorframes, skirting boards or plaster damage to internal walls
Understand and maintain plumbing and drainage systems, e.g., repairs to WC systems, leaking taps or water testing and unblocking drains
Maintain high levels of water hygiene within the building
Understand and maintain electrical distribution, safe repair of electrical installation to legal requirements, e.g., replacing damaged sockets, plugs, lighting and fuses
Demonstrate and implement energy, environment and sustainable practices
Understand and demonstrate the safe use of hand tools, e.g., screwdrivers, power drills and a variety of other tools used in plumbing and carpentry
Understand and demonstrate the principles of Planned Preventative Maintenance
Understand how to prepare for refurbishment or deep clean of equipment and surfaces
Carry out repairs and reactive maintenance
Record and report information accurately either internally or externally
