Start Well Worker
Children's Services

Grade 6

1 x 32 hours per week, permanent
1 x 37 hours per week, temporary to cover the secondment of the substantive postholder

The Deal for Children and Young People’s Programme sets out Wigan Council’s plans to redesign services in Wigan Borough. This plan will result in better outcomes, improved quality of life for children, young people and their families and ensure that we build resilience in our communities.

Our ‘Start Well’ New Delivery Model proposes the development of Community Hubs which have integrated, whole life course services which are closer to residents in the borough and work with our Schools, Early Years Settings and GP’s to ensure we collaboratively and efficiently drive improvements in outcomes for children and their families.

As part of our new Start Well Service, Early Intervention and Prevention, we are looking to appoint two Start Well workers who will join our locality integrated team, working closely with our communities and key partners to ensure that children in the borough stay safe, healthy and are able to learn and achieve without the need for statutory intervention.

We welcome applications from practitioners who have significant experience of working with children, young people and their families. The successful candidates will adopt an asset based approach and engage in ‘new conversations’ in order to build positive relationships. Working alongside children, young people and families you will develop ‘SMART’ action plans and coach, challenge and support them to achieve their goals by building resilience, connecting them to their communities and operating within the Ofsted inspection frameworks.
