Governor Services

Wigan Life Centre South
College Avenue
Wigan
WN1 1NJ

Salary: Grade 6, £228 - £263 per annum.

Annualised hours of 20 per year, term time only

Your role:

You will provide support to governing boards in Wigan and neighbouring Local Authorities who occasionally have need to convene statutory hearings such as a parental complaints panel or disciplinary hearing. You will be responsible for ensuring that that the correct procedures at hearings are followed and offer advice to the governing board where appropriate in addition to taking detailed and accurate minutes.

You may also be required to attend scheduled governing board meetings to cover for sickness absence of our full-time team members therefore you will need to be available at relatively short notice.

About you:

You must have experience of working with or serving on a school governing board or have experience of working in a school or academy setting to join our Ad Hoc Professional Clerking team.

You will have excellent organisational skills, be a good team player who can work equally well alone with minimum supervision. You will have a flexible approach to your working hours as the majority of Governing Board meetings take place at very short notice and during early evening, and also involves travelling to schools across Wigan and neighbouring boroughs. You will have great communication skills and not be afraid to have courageous conversations.

About us:

Wigan Council has been voted ‘Council of the Year’ at the 2019 LGC Awards and has recently published The Deal 2030, our ambitious plan for our borough. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.

Governor Services is part of the School Improvement team. We are committed to working hard to achieve the Deal for Children and Young People and are proud that over 90% of schools in Wigan are judged to be at least “good” by Ofsted and excellent leadership and management, including governance, is central to that judgement. We will provide you with the support you need to do your job and offer you learning opportunities to further your development within the organisation.

As an employer we like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of exclusive rewards and benefits.
