Salary: Grade 5, £24,702 - £27,334 per annum. £12.80 - £14.17 per hour

 

37 hours per week

 

Your role:

 

A flexible individual is required to fill a vacancy at Wigan Crematorium to carry out a full range of duties to effectively deliver crematorium-based operations including, cremation, interment and scattering of ashes, day to day liaison with stakeholders, operational upkeep and reporting and the delivery of the ground’s maintenance service in accordance with instructions and agreed procedures.

 

The role calls for the individual to work flexibly as part of a team with some out of normal hours work and some weekend duties included in the job role. If you are interested, you will have to possess a current Cremation Technician proficiency certificate by one of the accredited bodies.

 

You will carry out a full range of duties to effectively deliver crematorium based operations including, cremating and the delivery of the grounds maintenance and be sensitive to the needs of grieving families dealing with bereavement be available to cover for other colleagues in the service including cemetery duties and office duties.

 

You will provide exceptional customer service, be adept at dealing with a range of customers, and be the ‘eyes and ears’ of the Council when working in the borough. You will lead by example and motivate others to work to collective goals and actively seek ways to improve the service, suggesting new ways of working and embracing change. Some weekend work is required on a rota basis.

 

About you:

 

You must be able to demonstrate the following essential requirements:

  • Hold a current certificate for the ICCM - Crematorium Technicians Training Scheme.
  • Have demonstrable experience of working within a crematorium or grounds maintenance service.
  • Hold a Full Driving Licence including category “B” towing of trailers.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work flexible to meet the demands of the service.
  • Ability to deal sympathetically with cemetery visitors and the families of the bereaved
