Salary: Grade 10, £42,403 - £46,464 per annum.

 

37 hours per week

 

1 x Temporary until January 2025 – Ashton Locality

1 x Permanent – Wigan Locality

 

An exciting opportunity has become available for a suitably qualified and experienced social worker/manager to join Wigan Locality Social Care Team as an Advanced Practitioner on a permanent basis and Ashton Locality Team on a temporary basis until Jan 2025. Applications are welcomed from internal and external candidates who wish to take the opportunity to progress professionally and work alongside the existing management teams and with Wigan Locality staff.

 

Your role:

 

You will supervise a locality team of Social Workers, managing the allocation of cases and oversight of caseload throughput. You will ensure there is a high standard of assessment and support planning with appropriate challenge and negotiation in the approval of packages of support. You will be expected to act as duty Advanced Practitioner on a rota basis, where applicable supporting the duty function and on the Social Care Officers and Social Workers acting as duty workers.

 

You will develop and maintain high professional standards for the team in line with current and future legislative and corporate requirements and will quality assure and approve supported self-assessments and support plans produced by Social Care staff. You will provide support and oversight to Safeguarding processes and chair strategy discussions and meetings on a regular basis.

 

You will support the development and commissioning of appropriate packages of support, working in partnership with providers and voluntary organisations. You will work independently and as a team member providing excellent customer care at all times and promoting positive behaviours in the workplace. You will also work in an integrated team with both health and wider social care colleagues. You will work alongside and support management and staff through the ongoing process of transformation within the service.

 

About you:

 

You will demonstrate a significant level of experience within an adult social work team and be registered with SW England. You will hold a qualification in management or be able to demonstrate that you have experience in the supervising of others. 

 

You will demonstrate enhanced communication skills and as you will be responsible for the supervision and oversight of staff you will be expected to display excellent organisation skills.  You will have an extensive and up to date knowledge of the current legislation that is relevant to social work practice at this time and have knowledge and experience of the application of those statutory frameworks. You will demonstrate ability in the use of the adult social care electronic system in order that the allocation of work is effectively managed.  

 

You will be expected to hold presentation skills for team meeting etc. and to represent your area of responsibility in a professional manner. You will be required to work with external agencies, professionals and in line with the wider service delivery in a productive and effective manner.  You will be required to display an understanding of budgets and be able to show creativity in how services are delivered to meet wellbeing outcomes of those in our community.

 

You will be expected to chair meetings i.e. Safeguarding Adults as appropriate to your area of work and Best Interests Meetings in an effective and professional manner. You will be expected to provide appropriate responses to managers and team members effectively.

 

You will be expected to make proportionate and relevant decisions on a daily basis. You will support the wider team in the management of positive risk taking and demonstrate overall leadership ability when required. You will contribute to the Advanced Practitioner duty rota.

It is an expectation that you will demonstrate the behaviours and attitudes that are required of Wigan Council. To work in line with the Councils policies and procedures. You will be expected to display a supportive, positive outlook and to demonstrate emotional resilience when dealing with stressful or urgent situations.
